Our Preschool Resources

Preschool or Pre-K depending on where you live, is such an incredibly fun stage in the homeschooling journey!  A gentle introduction to reading, writing and basic mathematics seems to be the heart of this “first year” of study.

We tend to cover other subjects with both girls together, such as science, geography, history, art and music. This year we used The Playful Pioneers by The Peaceful Press as our guide for the day.  The fact that it is based on “The Little House” series tugged at my heartstrings since this book series was so special to me when I was young (and now even more special at “not-so-young”)…it was a no-brainer to give this curriculum a try and I am so thrilled we did!

They are beautiful, informative, engaging and simple to understand and enjoy…a true MUST-HAVE!  To see a full list of our favorite resources, click HERE.

Here is a peek at some of our favorite resources for Miss 4:

LANGUAGE ARTS

The bulk of our studies for Miss 4’s language arts is with the Explode the Code series.  This little Miss has always loved letters and has picked up a few of their sounds a quite a young age thanks to watching her big sis read over the years.  Letter formation is coming, as her hand strength continues to improve…no rush, she’s having fun with it at this point!

The rest of our studies are far less formal and can vary depending on the week.  We try to stick with the themes that The Playful Pioneers curriculum has laid out for us but of course we go off track as interests are awakened or as the seasons change.  I’m thrilled these little sisters get to share their days, learn and grow together and that we are able to adapt their studies to what keeps the spark of learning and creativity alive!

Please see the blog post “Books (and things)” for our main reference books.  These books are the heart of our children’s education.  Our other blog posts will give you a taste of what “a-day-in-the-life” looks like for us…again this is what works for us, and in no way reflects what might work for you.

Any questions, let me know!
