DIY Natural Scented “Thinking Putty” or Playdough
Every few months we discover an excuse to make a new batch of playdough. This time we had an overabundance of dried herbs from our garden and thought we would give natural scented playdough a try. Of course we are always on the lookout for a new, amazingly-fabulous recipe to try as well. This time we decided on a “Thinking Putty” recipe from Natural Beach Living’s beautiful website. Thinking Putty is an amazing sensory tool. It can reduce anxiety and stress while simultaneously increasing focus, keeping little ones on task when needed. It is a wonderful addition to homeschool life, throw some in your Morning/Poetry Basket and another batch in your little’s pencil case.
Recipe
- Add 1 cup Cornstarch to medium sized bowl
- Squeeze in 3 oz. of unscented, natural lotion

Essential oils would be an amazing addition to this and could be tailored to your child’s needs depending on the day.
As mentioned, we picked and dried lavender and peppermint from our garden this summer, so that’s what we chose to use. We went through the pantry and tried to think of what else would give a wonderful aroma….hot chocolate was the winner!
Warning…the chocolate smell next to the peppermint is almost too amazing…resist the urge to eat it!
The end results were just beautiful! I really hope you give this one a try!
Here are a few examples of how we used our putty throughout the week.
